Reflections and the Future
My goals and focus have solidified in the time I have been in the MLIS program. Specifically, my goal is to get into the field of moving image archiving or digital libraries. My academic, professional and extracurricular focus has always included technology and media, but I lacked a conduit to bring it all together. The SJSU MLIS program has served as an excellent foundation to ready me for my chosen field.
In the next six months, I plan to use my coursework, internship experience and leadership ability to gain employment at an archives or special library. I believe through my ability to balance a full time job, coursework and extracurricular activities while maintaining a 3.95 GPA I am well on my way to becoming a valuable asset to our field. In addition, I was awarded the Dean’s Department and School Scholarship, College of Applied Sciences and Arts, 2008. I knew I had allowed my passion for this field propelled me though a very full schedule. I plan to become an even stronger asset to the library profession by continuing my education via workshops, seminars and conferences sponsored by SAA, SLA, AMIA and other archival and library associations. I am already set to attend an overseas study program in London and Paris in the summer of 2009. There I will learn more about Web 2.0 and other multi-media applications for use in libraries. This experience should fortify my skill set to bring not only technological expertise, but also new ideas for outreach to my future employer.
My fervor to continue to learn and bring the best to the library profession allowed me to thrive in the MLIS program. Many friendships were nurtured as I strove to network at every possible opportunity. I will continue to represent the ALA and SAA Code of Ethics and strive to document, preserve and make accessible the collective memory of society.
