Introduction

     The following e-Portfolio represents my culminating experience in the Masters of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program at San José State University’s School of Library and Information Science (SJSU SLIS). Completion of this project proves a well rounded mastery in all areas of library and information science. The project is organized by an introduction, a statement of professional philosophy, competencies A through N and a concluding statement with an affirmation. Each competency is formulated according to ALA Core Competencies in Librarianship. A Statement of Competency explains my understanding of each learning outcome and includes supporting evidentiary items. The e-Portfolio was originally composed on ANGEL, a web-based tool to compose, store and publish documents and now available via this website.

     I started the MLIS program in 2006 seeking a career change. After researching the approach I should take to synthesize my greatest interests I found the SJSU SLIS program was the perfect fit. The e-Portfolio culminating experience affords me the opportunity to revisit all areas of library science I have learned over the past few years. I am reminded of the importance of standards, ethics and other tenants so important to the library profession while I reflect on the personal relationships I have cultivated during the program. I look forward to becoming a valuable contribution to the library profession.
